WHAT IS AN IPL PHOTOFACIAL?
Are dark spots, sun damage, scars, or other skin blemishes affecting how you feel about your appearance? If so, you may benefit from an intense pulsed light (IPL) therapy at Horizon Medical Center. IPL, also known as a photofacial, is a skin rejuvenation treatment for adult men and women with hyperpigmentation and other skin concerns on their neck, chest, and face. IPL therapy uses light energy to stimulate your body’s natural healing response and ignite new collagen formation, which can help improve the tone, texture, and appearance of your skin. In time, you should see a healthier complexion with an improved tone and fewer dark spots. Our Schaumburg, IL med spa team is excited to offer IPL photofacials performed with the Alma Harmony XL PRO laser and would love to help you explore whether this aesthetic option can help you enjoy a more radiant, confident glow!
WHO IS A CANDIDATE FOR IPL?
IPL is a great way to address a wide range of cosmetic issues that prevent you from looking and feeling your best. Don’t let these concerns keep you from showing off your natural radiance! Our aesthetic team at Horizon Medical Center can perform a skin evaluation to see if IPL can give you achieve the clear, even complexion you desire. Please inform us if you are taking Accutane or similar medications, as this will affect results. Our staff can provide you with a list of skin conditions and medications that are not compatible with IPL.
HOW DOES IPL THERAPY WORK?
An IPL photofacial reaches the deeper layers of your skin to improve an array of complexion concerns, such as sun damage, rosacea, brown spots (hyperpigmentation), a rough texture, visible pores, redness, freckles, sun and age spots, scars, or broken capillaries. Performed in one of our private treatment rooms by our Schaumburg, IL med spa team, these laser facials are customized to individual needs and take around 20 – 30 minutes to complete. IPL therapy is administered using the Harmony XL PRO handheld device, which emits healing light energy pulses into targeted areas of the skin. The light triggers the body to replace damaged skin cells and produce new collagen for a healthier result. There is little to no downtime with IPL, and optimal results may be achieved after 3 – 6 treatment sessions.
IPL FAQ
How much does IPL cost?
Your skin is unique, so the cost of a photofacial will vary based on your goals. Horizon Medical Center offers monthly specials, and we take most payment methods. In your initial visit, we can estimate your cost and determine the number of treatments needed to fit your needs and goals.
How quick are the results from IPL?
Some results can usually be seen after each session, but the best results develop around one month after all of your treatments are complete. It is normal for patients to see different responses following every session. You will notice a gradual improvement of blotchiness, redness, sunspots, and age spots over time.
What are the possible side effects of IPL?
It’s common to experience mild side effects like temporary redness, swelling, crusting, bruising, or superficial blisters. These should go away on their own within a day or two after the procedure. You will be extra sensitive to the sun, and you should keep in mind that excessive damaging UV rays can negatively affect the results of the procedure. We also recommend using sunscreen to protect your skin and avoid issues like redness and spots.
Do I need to prep for IPL?
Before getting IPL, patients are usually asked to skip self-tanners and excessive sun for about 2 – 4 weeks before their treatment. You should stop using certain medications and topical creams, like Retin-A, a few days before your treatment, and we may recommend taking pain relievers 5 – 7 days before your appointment to help prevent bruising. You should also use sunscreen since your skin will be extra sensitive.
Why should I get multiple IPL sessions?
A full series of IPL photorejuvenation is recommended to deliver natural-looking improvements to your complexion. Every session helps to fade spots and other surface irregularities. Several treatments also produce longer-lasting improvements.
